The 2024 U.S. Nightjar Network survey dates are here! These dates are specifically chosen to coincide with the nights of brightest moonlight and greatest nightjar calling frequency. These are important dates to use so survey conditions are standardized across all regions of the Nightjar Survey Network. Contact nightjars@nightjars.org with questions.

Survey Dates

Surveys must only be conducted during these 2024 survey dates:

Window 1: FL and TX: 16 Mar – 1 Apr

Window 2: Southern U.S. (AZ*, NM, MO and all areas south): 15 Apr – 1 May

Window 3: Any location in the country: 15 May – 30 May

Window 4: Areas north of AZ, FL, NM, and TX and high elevation areas in the northern US: 13 Jun – 28 Jun

Window 5: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, Dakotas, MN: 13 Jul – 27 Jul
